However, the team remains in a solid position, being just two points off the Premier League top four, reaching the quarter-finals of the League Cup, and still in contention in the Europa League. Their FA Cup campaign begins in January, and with everything to play for, Spurs need to navigate the next few months carefully under manager Ange Postecoglou to ensure this season remains special.
To strengthen their chances, Tottenham must address several key positions during the January transfer window. One of the most urgent areas is at right-back. Pedro Porro, who has shown flashes of brilliance for Spurs, is reportedly a target for Real Madrid as they look to replace Dani Carvajal, who is in his 30s and sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury. Manchester City is also rumored to be interested in bringing Porro back to the Etihad. While it remains to be seen if Porro will leave in January, Tottenham’s options at right-back are limited. Djed Spence, who has struggled to earn a spot in the first team, and versatile teenager Archie Gray, who has played in several positions, are the current backups. This lack of depth in the right-back position is a concern, especially with Postecoglou’s high-intensity playing style, which demands rotation. If Spurs aim to challenge in multiple competitions, they will need another reliable right-back, someone who can consistently feature in the team and play under the manager’s system.
The left-back position is another area in need of reinforcement. Ben Davies, who has been a loyal servant to the club, is now in his 30s and may leave in the near future.
