Arsenal agree personal terms with Noni Madueke ahead of potential transfer

arsenal are getting ready for the new season and they want to build a team that can finally win the premier league after more than twenty years of waiting their manager mikel arteta is working with the club’s transfer team to get the right players and one of the big stories this summer is about noni madueke arsenal have agreed personal terms with the chelsea winger that means madueke is ready to move to arsenal if the clubs can agree on a transfer fee this is not yet a done deal but it is a big step forward in any transfer there are usually two main stages first the player has to agree with the new club about things like salary bonuses length of contract and other personal details this is what is called personal terms second the selling club and buying club need to agree on the price and payment structure right now arsenal and madueke have finished the first step they have agreed on the personal terms he wants to join arsenal
arsenal want him now it is up to arsenal and chelsea to talk about the transfer fee and other details there have not been any direct talks between arsenal and chelsea yet but both clubs know how these things work and they have done business before this summer arsenal already signed goalkeeper kepa arrizabalaga from chelsea they paid his five million pounds release clause and got the deal done quickly last year they also signed kai havertz from chelsea in the past they have signed jorginho david luiz and petr cech so even though they are big rivals on the pitch their boards can work together when they want to the fact that they agreed so easily on kepa this summer is a good sign for the madueke deal but it will depend on the price chelsea want a good fee they
signed madueke from psv eindhoven in january 2023 and he is still under contract until 2030 so they are not in any rush to sell unless the money is right madueke himself is keen on the move he wants to play for arsenal he is 23 years old he is english he knows north london well because he actually spent time at tottenham hotspur’s academy when he was younger he also played youth football for crystal palace before going to psv in 2018 he built his reputation in the netherlands as a talented tricky winger he is fast he likes to dribble he can cut inside and shoot he is direct and he loves taking on defenders one on one arsenal have been looking for this type of player arteta wants more options on the wings arsenal’s first choice right winger is bukayo saka who is one of the best in the world but saka has played so many minutes in recent seasons he rarely gets injured but there is always the fear of burnout or picking up a big injury if he has no backup arteta wants someone who
can rotate with saka give him rest and also play on the left side if needed madueke can do that he is mainly a right winger but he can switch sides and play on the left he also fits arsenal’s age profile they want young players who can improve under arteta and have resale value if needed last season madueke played 45 games for chelsea including four games at the club world cup in the united states he scored 11 goals and gave five assists which is a decent return but his
season was not perfect he had some injuries especially a hamstring problem that kept him out for a bit also enzo maresca who is the chelsea manager twice left him out of the matchday squad once was in december for the 3-0 win over aston villa reportedly because he was not performing well in training another time was against fulham which maresca called a technical decision so it was not all smooth at chelsea even though he got a lot of games overall madueke joined chelsea from psv in january 2023 for about 30 million pounds and he has now played 91
times for them he signed a long contract that runs until 2030 so chelsea have control they do not need to sell unless they want to but they have also been very busy in the transfer market this summer they have added other attacking players they signed liam delap from ipswich town for 30 million pounds they signed joao pedro from brighton in a deal over 50 million pounds and they signed jamie gittens from borussia dortmund for an initial 48.5 million pounds plus 3.5 million in
possible add ons with all these new forwards coming in chelsea may be open to selling madueke if the price is right they need to balance the squad and possibly recoup some money to keep within financial fair play rules for arsenal this is all part of a bigger plan they want to build a squad that can compete with manchester city for the premier league title last season they pushed city all the way but fell just short they know they need more depth more quality and more options arteta is very clear about wanting players who can play in multiple positions
who are good on the ball and who work hard in pressing madueke ticks many of those boxes he is a typical modern winger fast skillful direct but also willing to work back when needed arsenal have been considering other options too they were linked with crystal palace’s eberechi eze who can play wide or as a number ten they also looked at aston villa’s morgan rogers but madueke seems to be the main target now the fact that personal terms are agreed is very important because in many transfers this is the biggest hurdle if the player does not want
the move or wants too high a salary the deal falls apart here madueke is ready he wants it he has told arsenal he is happy with their offer now the pressure is on the clubs to find the right deal chelsea will not want to strengthen a direct rival cheaply but they also have so many attackers that they may be willing to sell at the right price arsenal know this they have experience dealing with chelsea and they will try to negotiate a fair fee fans of both clubs are watching closely arsenal fans are excited because madueke is young english talented and has the kind of aggressive dribbling style that they love
chelsea fans are divided some think he has not been consistent enough and is replaceable given the other signings others think it is a mistake to sell a young english talent to a rival this is the reality of modern football money and squad planning can sometimes mean you have to sell even good players to other big clubs madueke himself will be keen for the move he grew up in london he knows what playing for a club like arsenal means he also wants regular football chelsea’s new signings mean there will be even more competition for places and with maresca being a demanding coach there is no guarantee madueke will start every week
at arsenal he will not be guaranteed to start either because of saka but he will know there is a clear role for him to rotate and challenge he may also get chances on the left especially with gabriel martinelli needing rotation too for arteta this is all part of building a squad that can win not just compete arteta has made it clear he wants a group of 16 or 17 top players who can rotate without dropping quality he does not want to be dependent on just one or two stars he wants competition for places madueke will add that he is also english which helps with
the premier league’s homegrown rules arsenal have been smart about managing that in recent windows bringing in players like declan rice ben white aaron ramsdale kai havertz who all help with the quota even though havertz is german he was trained in england for years madueke adds to that too he is also an england international he got his first senior call up in august 2024 and has seven caps he was a regular at youth level before that this is important for arsenal they want players with international experience but also with potential to get better arteta is known for improving young players saka martinelli odegaard saliba all improved a lot
under him madueke may see arsenal as the perfect place to grow his career if this deal goes through it will not be cheap but arsenal have shown they are willing to spend big they spent over 200 million pounds last summer on rice havertz timber raya and they want to keep investing the club’s owners kroenke sports and entertainment have backed arteta and edu the sporting director they believe this is the best chance to win the premier league since the invincibles in 2004 the pressure is on manchester city remain favourites they have an incredible squad and the best manager in pep guardiola but arsenal believe they can catch them arteta thinks small improvements can make the difference signing a player like madueke is part of that plan add more goals more assists more competition and reduce the risk of injuries ruining the season last season they lost timber early in the season and that hurt their depth they want to avoid that this time chelsea meanwhile are trying to rebuild after a disappointing season they have a new manager in maresca who is known for his tactics and demanding style they are buying young talent but they also know they cannot keep everyone selling madueke might make sense if they get a good price and can reinvest in other areas it is also a chance to balance the squad financially with all the new signings and wages chelsea have to be careful about ffp rules so in a way this deal could work for both clubs if they can agree on the fee and structure arsenal will get a player they want who improves their options chelsea will get money and clear space for their new signings but as always in football it is not simple both clubs will try to get the best deal arsenal will want to keep the price sensible chelsea will want as much as they can get agents will be involved trying to get the best for their client fans will watch every twist and turn in the media every rumour every leak for now it is clear the player is
ready to come that is a big step next comes the negotiation between the clubs sometimes deals at this stage fall apart if the price is too high or if one club refuses to budge sometimes they get done quickly if both sides see the benefit the kepa deal shows arsenal and chelsea can do fast business when they want but kepa was cheap with a release clause this will be different with no release clause chelsea can set their price arsenal will have to decide how much they want madueke and whether they can find a compromise in the coming weeks this will be one of the most watched stories of the summer window it is not just about one player it is about how arsenal build a squad that can win titles how chelsea manage their huge squad rebuild and how two of england’s biggest clubs balance rivalry with the reality of doing business in a competitive league in the end if the deal happens madueke will get a big chance to prove himself at a huge club fighting for titles if it does not he will stay at chelsea and fight for his place in an even more competitive attacking lineup for now all eyes are on the next step talks between arsenal and chelsea to see if this transfer can go from personal terms agreed to full deal completed
