Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 28-year-old German international has been a key player for Dortmund since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019. He enjoyed a successful campaign last season, contributing significantly with seven goals and 11 assists in 26 Bundesliga starts.
Despite Dortmund’s inconsistent start to this season, Brandt has maintained his impressive form, already contributing nine goals and assists in all competitions. His recent performance against Wolfsburg, where he scored a goal and provided an assist, further highlighted his current form.
Fichajes claims that Spurs have initiated discussions regarding a potential deal for Brandt and are planning to hold talks to finalize the transfer. While Dortmund may be open to negotiations, Tottenham will face stiff competition from other European clubs interested in acquiring the talented midfielder.
Brandt’s current contract with Dortmund expires in 2026. If Dortmund fails to secure a contract extension, Brandt could become available at a more affordable price next year. Transfermarkt currently values Brandt at around £29 million.
A versatile midfielder, Brandt excels as a number ten but is also capable of playing a box-to-box role. His technical skills, accurate passing, and ability to deliver long-range passes make him a valuable asset. He is also proficient in set-piece situations.
Currently, James Maddison is the only recognized attacking midfielder in Tottenham’s squad. Dejan Kulusevski can provide cover in this position, but he is more naturally suited to playing on the wing.
Signing a new midfielder would be a strategic move for Tottenham, and Brandt would be a valuable addition to their squad due to his experience and proven quality. However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will make a concrete offer to lure Brandt away from Dortmund in the upcoming January transfer window or at the end of the season.
