David Luiz names two world-class stars who can help Arsenal win Premier League title

Former Arsenal defender David Luiz has urged Mikel Arteta’s team to remain hopeful in their pursuit of the Premier League title, despite trailing league leaders Liverpool. The Brazilian believes Arsenal has two key players who can help them lift the trophy if they maintain their focus and consistency.

Luiz, who played for Arsenal from 2019 to 2021, has always been vocal about history admiration for the club. Now, he is encouraging the Gunners to keep pushing forward and trust in their ability to challenge for the title. In a recent interview, he emphasized that Arsenal’s success depends on maintaining their ambition and making full use of their squad depth.

With the season entering a crucial phase, Luiz highlighted Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Magalhães as the two players who could make the difference. Both have been instrumental in Arsenal’s performances this season, and Luiz believes they are the backbone of the squad. But do Arsenal really have what it takes to win the Premier League this season? Let’s take a deeper look at Luiz’s statements, Arsenal’s current squad, and their chances of overtaking Liverpool.

Arsenal currently sits six points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table. However, Liverpool has a game in hand, making Arsenal’s challenge even tougher. Despite this, Arsenal remains a serious contender for the title.

The Gunners have been performing well across multiple competitions. They recently secured a place in the Champions League knockout stages with a 2-1 comeback victory over Girona. Additionally, they have an upcoming Carabao Cup quarter-final against Newcastle, where they will attempt to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit.

However, Arsenal’s biggest concern has been injuries to key players. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, two of their most important attacking players, have been sidelined due to injuries. Their absence has affected Arsenal’s attacking fluency, and Arteta is looking to bring in reinforcements before the transfer window closes.  Luiz, who played under Arteta before leaving Arsenal in 2021, understands the challenges of a title race. He acknowledges that Arsenal is competing against clubs with exceptional squads, but he believes that with the right mentality, they can still succeed.

Speaking in an interview with *The Sun*, Luiz shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s title challenge. “Arsenal haven’t won the league yet because there are other amazing clubs like Manchester City,” Luiz said. “Guardiola has turned City into a machine, and Liverpool, with their new coach, are also incredible.”

Manchester City has dominated English football under Pep Guardiola, winning multiple league titles. Liverpool, under their new manager, has also been in excellent form this season. Competing with these two powerhouses is not easy, but Luiz believes Arsenal has what it takes.

Arsenal has not won the Premier League since 2004, when Arsène Wenger’s “Invincibles” went unbeaten for an entire season. The club has gone through a rebuilding phase in recent years, and under Arteta, they have made significant progress. However, closing the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City remains a tough challenge.

Luiz specifically mentioned Martin Ødegaard and Gabriel Magalhães as two players who could be crucial to Arsenal’s title hopes.  Martin Ødegaard has been a revelation for Arsenal. The Norwegian midfielder, who was named club captain last season, has been at the heart of Arsenal’s attacking play.

Ødegaard’s ability to control the tempo of the game, pick out key passes, and score crucial goals has made him one of the best midfielders in the league. His leadership qualities have also been evident, as he has taken responsibility in difficult situations.  Luiz praised Ødegaard’s growth, calling him a world-class player.  “Martin has grown a lot and is now a world-class player,” Luiz said. “He’s an amazing person and has turned into a great leader.”

Ødegaard’s vision and technical ability make him one of the most important players in Arteta’s system. He operates in the attacking midfield role, linking up with the forwards and creating chances. His passing accuracy and intelligence on the ball help Arsenal break down stubborn defenses. One of the reasons Arsenal has been so strong this season is Ødegaard’s influence in midfield. When he plays well, the entire team benefits. If Arsenal wants to catch Liverpool, they will need him at his best in the remaining games.

Gabriel Magalhães has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers over the past few seasons. The Brazilian center-back has developed into a dominant force in defense, forming a strong partnership with William Saliba.

“Gabriel has the power of a monster—he can score in every single match! He’s a powerful guy. I hope he continues this way with the help of Arteta, who gets the best out of him every day.”  Gabriel’s physical presence, aerial ability, and composure on the ball have made him one of the best defenders in the league. He is also a threat from set-pieces, often scoring crucial goals for Arsenal.

One of Arsenal’s biggest strengths this season has been their defense. They have conceded just 21 goals in 23 league matches, which is the joint-best defensive record in the league alongside Liverpool. Gabriel has played a huge role in this defensive solidity.  With Arsenal fighting for multiple trophies, having a reliable defender like Gabriel is essential. He will be key in keeping clean sheets and helping the team secure vital points in the title race.

Arsenal’s title hopes depend on their performances in the upcoming months. They have a tough fixture list ahead, including crucial matches against top teams. Their biggest challenge will be facing Manchester City and Liverpool. These two fixtures could decide the title race. If Arsenal can secure victories against both teams, they will have a strong chance of winning the league.

Another important factor will be the return of injured players. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus are expected to return in the coming weeks. Their presence will boost Arsenal’s attack and give them more options in the final third.  Arteta has also been looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window. If Arsenal can bring in a quality attacker, it will give them a better chance of competing with Liverpool and Manchester City.

Winning the Premier League will not be easy, but Arsenal has the quality to challenge for the title. They have a strong squad, a solid defense, and a world-class playmaker in Ødegaard. If they can stay consistent and win key matches, they have a chance to lift the trophy.

David Luiz’s message to Arsenal is clear: keep believing, stay ambitious, and trust in the team’s ability. With Ødegaard and Gabriel leading the way, Arsenal could still make history this season.  As the title race heats up, all eyes will be on Arsenal to see if they can push Liverpool and Manchester City all the way. One thing is certain—Mikel Arteta’s team will not give up without a fight.
