Werner to leave Tottenham this summer as Spurs refuse to activate €12 million buy option

Tottenham Hotspur is set to make changes in the summer transfer window. The team needs new players in key positions to avoid another disappointing season. Right now, they are in 13th place in the Premier League, far from the Champions League spots they want to be in.

Some people say the reason for Tottenham’s poor form is the many injuries they have suffered. Others blame manager Ange Postecoglou. Some fans think the problem is the players who have not performed well this season.

Many players in the team have not delivered good performances. One of the most disappointing ones is Timo Werner. He was brought in on loan, but he has not played well. The German forward has been poor, and his performances have frustrated the fans and the coach.

Postecoglou even called him out after a very bad game when Tottenham drew 1-1 with Rangers in the Europa League. That game summed up Werner’s struggles in England. His lack of goals and poor play have made it clear that he does not fit into the team.

Reports say Werner will return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season. Tottenham has decided not to activate the option to buy him for €12 million. This means his time at Spurs will end soon.

Werner is now 29 years old. He does not want to join another Bundesliga team. Clubs from the Premier League and Major League Soccer (MLS) are looking at him, but his high salary at Leipzig, around €10 million per year, might be a problem. If he wants a move, he may need to lower his wage demands.

Injuries and poor performances have kept Werner out of the team for a long time. Since January, when he played badly against Newcastle United, he has not had many chances. Postecoglou has used him only in a few games.

Tottenham made a mistake by bringing Werner back after his first loan spell. His first time at the club was not great, so extending his stay was not a good decision. Now, they have realized that and are not making the same mistake again.

The club has already moved on by signing Wilson Odobert. They are also trying to sign Mathys Tel permanently in the summer. With these new players, Tottenham does not need Werner anymore. Letting him return to Leipzig is the best decision for everyone.

Instead of spending money on Werner, Tottenham should focus on strengthening other areas. They need better defensive midfielders and defenders. The team also needs more attacking options. If they fix these problems, they can have a better 2025/26 season.

This season has been disappointing for Spurs fans. But with smart signings, they can improve and aim for a higher position in the Premier League next season. The club’s main goal is to qualify for the Champions League, and they need to build a stronger squad to make that happen.

The decision to let Werner go is just one step in the process. More changes will come as Tottenham tries to rebuild the team and return to the top level of English football.
