Rangers man tears 25-year old star to Shreds after calling him Atrocious and ONE to Blame for Points dropped in 2-2 draw to Hearts
Hearts 2-2 Rangers on Wednesday night left Derek McInnes’ side with a point at Tynecastle and plenty of questions to answer. Olwethu Makhanya’s late equaliser rescued the draw on McInnes’ return to the ground, but the mood afterwards was less about the comeback and more about how Rangers let it get that far. At the centre of the storm is Emmanuel Fernandez, and the criticism has been relentless. (Sky Sports)
The problems started early. Fernandez was caught on the ball in the opening minutes, forcing Nicolas Raskin into a tactical foul and a booking. Things did not settle from there. On Sky Sports, James McFadden was clearly unhappy with the defender as Rangers struggled, and the pundit was not the only one losing patience. Fernandez picked up a needless first-half foul in a dangerous area, and he then looked slow to react for the equaliser. He was not alert to Fagan-Walcott before the Hearts defender headed the ball across for Braga to finish. (Hearts vs Rangers player ratings: Emmanuel Fernandez calamitous, 3/10 man embarrasses Derek McInnes +2)
For many Rangers supporters, that was the moment that summed up the night. A team that had shown real character to fight back was undone by moments of poor concentration at the back, and the finger is firmly pointing at one man. The player ratings reflect that, with some outlets handing him the lowest mark in the team.
It is harsh to put a whole result on one player, and Rangers did not help themselves elsewhere. Pandur was left exposed, and the build-up play was wasteful for long spells. Still, defenders live and die by their mistakes, and Fernandez has now made too many in a team that cannot afford to drop points while Celtic are only four clear.
McInnes has a decision to make before the next game. Stick with a player who is clearly short of confidence, or make a change and send a message to the dressing room. Either way, Wednesday night has put the spotlight firmly on the back line.
