Njambi had been battling a severe case of endometriosis, a condition she had suffered from since her teenage years, which had progressed to a rare and extreme form known as Thoracic endometriosis. This condition involves the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, which in Njambi’s case, affected her lungs, causing them to collapse every month.
In the weeks before her death, Njambi made a heartfelt appeal to Kenya’s President William Ruto, asking for his support in the investment of health care, particularly for the treatment of endometriosis.
She highlighted the challenges faced by women with the condition, including the lack of specialized treatment in Kenya and the severe pain and complications it causes. Njambi’s condition had caused significant damage to her health, affecting her teeth, heart, appendix, and even shifting her organs.
Despite undergoing 21 surgeries to manage her condition, Njambi’s health deteriorated, and she was hospitalized a week prior to her passing. She was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she ultimately succumbed to the disease.
