Less than a week after Antonio’s accident West Ham announced some truly devastating news. Oscar Fairs a young player from their academy had passed away. Oscar was an under-15s goalkeeper. He had been fighting a rare type of brain cancer. He had been with West Ham since he was six years old. He was a lifelong fan and even had a season ticket. Oscar dreamed of playing for West Ham’s first team. He wanted to play for the club he loved. Sadly he lost his battle with cancer.

Now there is more sad news for West Ham. Their manager Julen Lopetegui has also suffered a personal loss. His father Jose Antonio Lopetegui has passed away. He was 94 years old. This is another dark day for the club. It adds to the already difficult period they are going through.

Lopetegui has been under a lot of pressure recently. There has been talk about his job security. Some recent results against Wolves and Bournemouth kept him in his job. But he has been dealing with a personal matter behind the scenes. His father had been unwell. This was a big reason why Lopetegui went back to Spain during the international break in November. He wanted to spend time with his father.

Sadly Lopetegui’s father has now passed away. West Ham has confirmed this news. Reports from France and Spain also confirmed that his father had died after a long illness. This news is a big blow for Lopetegui. It is a very difficult time for him and his family. The club is supporting him during this period. They are offering him their condolences and support.

It is not yet known if Lopetegui will be managing the team for their next game against Brighton. The club has said that they don’t know if he will be there. He flew to Spain to be with his family. West Ham has said that it has not been a great time for the club lately. This is an understatement considering all the sad events that have happened. There is a famous picture of Lopetegui’s father. It shows him holding his baby daughters one in each hand. His young son is standing next to them. It is a powerful image of a strong man and his family.

Lopetegui has spoken about his father before. He said that his father was very famous for stone lifting. He said that it was a much bigger sport in his father’s time. He also said that his father was a great athlete in many sports but he didn’t play football. West Ham has experienced a lot of sadness recently. This puts football in perspective. It reminds everyone that there are more important things than games. This is a time for the club to come together and support each other. If Lopetegui is not at the game against Brighton his assistant Pablo Sanz will be in charge.
