Spurs loan watch: Champions League action for Tottenham loanee

On Wednesday night Bryan Gil and his team Girona played against the Dutch team Feyenoord in the Champions League. This match was important for Girona as they were looking to recover from a tough loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their first Champions League game.

Gil started the match playing on the left wing in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The game was full of action. Girona scored first in the 19th minute but just four minutes later they conceded an own goal. By the 33rd minute Feyenoord took the lead. They then missed a penalty kick just three minutes later. At halftime Feyenoord was ahead 2-1.

In the second half seven minutes in Feyenoord had a goal disallowed by VAR. Girona then missed their own penalty in the middle of the half. However they managed to equalize six minutes later. Unfortunately just six minutes after that Girona scored another own goal giving Feyenoord a 3-2 lead that they held onto for the rest of the match.

Gil was substituted with 15 minutes left while the score was 2-2. He didn’t have a standout game but he did help set up Girona’s penalty. This loss marks Girona’s second defeat in the Champions League leaving them in 30th place out of 36 teams in the new league format.

Their next match in the Champions League is against Slovan Bratislava at home on October 22. This is a crucial game that they must win. Before that they will face Athletic Club in La Liga this weekend with kickoff set for 1:00 PM BST.
